Rising Fives Room

Preparing children for school is an important element of our work and we are keen to ensure that the transition from pre-school to primary school is as smooth as possible. Children enjoy a rich environment which is paramount in producing strategies to enable them to resolve problems, work collaboratively within their peer group and extend their own individual learning development and skills. These range from physical activities and exercise to help them develop their gross and fine motor skills, to small world and role play activities which aim to enhance their communication and language skills, literacy, knowledge of the world, personal and social skills, along with maths and expressive art and design. When children find out which primary school they will be attending, we ask the school for photos of classrooms, lunchrooms, playground, and teacher to make little books for each school to share with the children. This is to familiarise them with their new school environments, teachers are invited in to visit children and see them in their own environment at nursery. Finishing off all the important self help skills they are going to need to be confident learners at school.
